Budding pop star and photoshoot princess Tinashe is always one to impress. Coupled with Paper Magazine, it’s bound to be an amazing result.
The interview with Emily Zemler was conducted a little while ago before her now-canceled Joyride World Tour started. Nonetheless, we’re still being teased by her sophomore album with new song names like “Prisoner” and “Flame,” described as “buoyant, anthemic numbers that pair the singer’s soulful vocals with hook-laden beats.” Come on girl, we need that album!
Photographer Charlotte Rutherford lends her sharp eye to the shoot, while stylist Sammy K has the “Player” singer looking prim and proper until… wait, is that a homage to Britney Spears‘ iconic 1999 Rolling Stone shoot? This is why we love Tinashe y’all!
There’s so much playful toying with vibrant color, motion, props, and settings in this series — it’s a pop-art masterpiece reminiscent of classic David LaChapelle shoots but with a definite original spin and style. Of course Tinashe’s ability to work the camera doesn’t hurt either — from flirty laughs, to straight up eye-fucking the lens.
Check out a selection of photos from the photoshoot to tide you over as you wait for Joyride. It’s even closer than ever now!
