A deep cut from the Coitus Magazine archives. Back in 2014, Eme Chang Vergara and Guillem Cano teamed up for “Youth Kings,” a Spring editorial photographed by Adolfo Lopez for Coitus Online.
Eme, a Spanish-Korean model who was working internationally around this period and would later land with Wilhelmina in New York, was already popping up across the male-model world. Spanish model Guillem Cano had a quieter profile, but continued modeling professionally and has remained represented in Spain.
As for “Youth Kings,” subtle it was not. Crowns, capes, fencing swords, stacks of books, bare skin and a little AussieBum for good measure. The whole thing plays somewhere between royal portraiture and two guys who absolutely should NOT have been left alone in the palace. Dramatic poses and theatrical styling keep it campy, while Eme and Guillem are clearly having enough fun with the concept to keep it from taking itself too seriously.
More than a decade later, we figured these kings deserved another day on the throne.
