“It’s time for me to take it, I’m the boss right now.” Well we’re sure in for a ride aren’t we?
Following up her sapphic summer smash, Demi Lovato‘s ready to take over the next season with release of the title track of her fifth album, Confident. Originally slated to be the lead single before a last minute switch (you can’t really be “Cool for the Summer” in the fall), it’s easy why this was chosen at first.
The track plays the role of a NYFW model that strut down the catwalk right onto the set of Burlesque, “Confident” wouldn’t sound out of place with “Aftershock” or “Yes I Am,” two bonus deluxe edition tracks from her third album Unbroken. The diva-tude is in full effect here with Demi’s skyscraping vocals rising over horn blasts and a beat that’s going to translate incredibly well into a live show or your next favorite YouTube fan choreography video. Then there’s a sassy-stomp of a chorus where the question “what’s wrong with being confident?” is proposed, and we see absolutely nothing of the issue here, although we want nothing more than to see a fierce dance break at this point (can you imagine what would happen if Fifth Harmony or Little Mix covered this?).
“Confident” sounds like Demi at her most… well, confident. The Max Martin-penned, Ilya-produced smash is an appropriate sexy smash for someone that’s come a long way in her career. She’s got a big ego because she can back it up, and we’re right there with her.
Is “Confident” your new favorite song to strut to? Or do you think Demi should cool down a little? Let us know in the comments below.
Confident will be released October 16th, 2015 (iTunes)
