The other day (July 30), Alicia Keys tweeted a short clip in which she explains the title of the song “28 Thousand Days.” saying the inspiration for it came from an article that said the average human life is 76 years, or 28,000 days. Today, that song has arrived, and if there’s anyone that can make an uplifting-ass song out of a beautiful idea, it’s Alicia Keys.

“If you had 28 thousand days / Who would you love? / Where would you go?” Definitely one of the better concepts to an empowerment anthem we’ve heard in recent years.

The song is so classically Alicia, with those signature keys (excuse the pun) underneath retro drums and horns that’ll have us raising both our spirits and glasses in the air. It’s the sonic interpretation of watching the sun rise over the buildings of Harlem — It’s throwback, it’s modern, it’s grand, it’s the girl on fire.

The mission statement is simple: Wake up everybody, it’s a new day, what’ll you do with it?

Check out the song above and let us know what you think about it.

’28 Thousand Days’ was released on July 31, 2015 (iTunes)
