She knows she shouldn’t have kept you waiting, but she’s here now. After months of teasing and a few lowkey leaks, Britney Spears is back with her sexy new single “Make Me”, featuring rapper G-Eazy.

The song, produced by Burns and co-written by Joe Janiak, is a bit of change of pace for Brit, especially as a lead single. “Make Me” is a sleek and sultry mid-tempo pop song, slightly atmospheric at times, with R&B influences. The sound is very current, but also unique, with slick and high quality production. That subtle 1960’s surf rock guitar (a la “Toxic”) in the background is a serious earworm, as well as the verses which are very melodic, by pop standards anyway. There’s no sign of ghost-singers in sight (Myah Marie who?), the vocals are clear, and very undeniably Britney.

Of course, there are sensual lyrics to match the sound of the song

Just want you to make me move
Like it ain’t a choice for you
Like you got a job to do
Just want you to raise my roof
Something sensational
And make me “Ooh”

And that album art? Are you kidding me? It’s no secret that Britney’s body has been “back lookin’ delicious” for some time now, but this cover made us “Wow”.

Although the sound of “Make Me” is a bit different from Ms. Spears — especially if you are comparing to her more recent catalog — it isn’t really that much of a change of a departure from moody mid-tempo songs from 2003’s “In The Zone” such as “Early Mornin'” and “Touch Of My Hand” and even “Inside Out” from Femme Fatale in 2011. That’s not to say that it’s not fresh and modern; it truly is and to say that the fan response has been positive would be an understatement.

And with Katy Perry surprise-releasing her new song “Rise”  just minutes after Britney dropped her single 🙄, there has been some fan shade as well. But it’s all in good fun, right?

What do you think of Britney’s new single?
